FlowBall

FlowBall is a race against a tunnel that does not end. You steer a glowing ball along it, dodging the traps, chasms and obstacles that line the way, and collecting the glowing dots that unlock new levels and mark your records. The further you go, the more the tunnel asks of you, so a run is really a test of how long you can keep reading what is coming.

There are no weapons and no brakes - left and right is the whole control. Dropping into the abyss costs one of your lives, and losing them all ends the run, so the reward for a clean line is another stretch of tunnel to learn. The music and the colour build with the run, and the record you are chasing is always your own.

It runs in your browser with nothing to download, on a desktop with the arrow keys and on a phone with a tap or a swipe - on touch, swiping forward is also how you pick up speed, which is quicker to feel than to explain.

Tips for a cleaner run

• Watch past the ball. The tunnel warns you about everything that catches you; the mistake is made by staring at the thing you are steering.
• Correct early and small. A nudge keeps the run alive, an emergency swerve usually does not.
• Take the dots that are on your line. Collect what is already in front of you rather than crossing the tunnel for one more.
• Steady hands beat fast ones. The obstacles come to you, so there is nothing to gain by hurrying the input.
